Spirits of Darkness: Chaos

Chapter 1

Many a year, it had been, since the most important battle in the multiverse, and the Spirit of Death, Cthulhu, did not know of his slight miscalculation.

Shortly after the invention of the first interstellar engine, the GFM, in 2189 humanity took to the limited expanse of space that was their universe. The promises of interstellar science led them to even more determination in the conquering of physics, and also brought the spirit to try and change their mindset upon themselves, and soon to be, others.

War ceased, but not physical conflict.  People united, but not over a shared goal. Humanity, like always, stayed almost the same, changed very little, and prepared for the new test of will and wit.

Spirits of all kinds: mortal representations, elemental personifications, Gods, rulers of planes, angels, demons, guardians, undeath, good, and evil, all watched with pride as the unstoppable human spirit changed even their reality. Some wished for their deaths, some wanted their everlasting existence. But one thing for certain was that the true Lord of Gods let their existence last; for not even the most powerful of reality warping horrors could destroy their souls.

During the expansion of humans into the vast reaches of space, the more powerful nobility of deities let their subtly lighten: for the bad wanted to stop them, and the good wanted to help them. This led the humans to truly discover the practice of using the universal potential energy, magic, and the bodily power of the soul, chi, to be an effective alternative to science. The peaceful times opened up to this practice in a mutual effort: scientific study.

Though, like the theory of relativity and the theory of quantum mechanics once were, the study of these forces was futile. This led to obvious social separation between the followers of science, and the followers of magic. But this segregation did not bring about hostility, only the open mind of the human spirit. When humanity met other races that studied science, they knew how to communicate. When they met races adept in the practices of the manipulation of magic and chi, they also knew how to respond to this.

Generations later, conflict still exists. The balance of Death and Life is always shifting. Law and Chaos are at constant war. All is like it normally is.

In those countless generations later, Cthulhu’s job of reaping and guiding is becoming more complicated. His own internal and external conflicts can be felt even as worlds collide. Though, other rulers of planes do not know the cause of this immense power. The spirit of death, for billions of years, never had so much power.

3000 years after his miscalculation, caution was issued when he discovered his flaw; a flaw that not even Time could predict. A descendent of the Roman general, Decimus Claudius, as well as a few other troublemakers, were about to meet. Such a meeting as seen in the eyes of the higher deities would mark the coming of destruction.

Spirit and Mortal alike shall both be unknowingly subject to one of the most supreme tests in the history of the multiverse.

Chaos is about to unfold.

Time: 3149 A.D

Zane sat in his office chair, dazed and fixated upon the new orders that just came in the office’s mail. He and his policing partner Yakematsu Toga had just recently been moved to Zane’s home territory of Italy, and the new orders called for them to move once again to Japan.

This, even though irritating, was very alarming. They had been suddenly moved before but not so soon after settling in a new post. It was obvious to Zane that this new job was going to be mighty important if an order like this had to be issued.

“Naze anne hagayui?”

Zane looked up and away from the document to see Yakematsu coming into the office from the armory while replacing the energy cell of his favorite plasma enhanced, ancient Eastern sword.

“Yakematsu. Speak Universal Common. You don’t want to get into the habit of talking in that old gibberish all the time. Especially in these western global territories. It’s kinda taboo around here,” Zane took an anxious sip of espresso.

“Yea, I know. But it’s funny as hell to confuse you,” he sheathed his sword and then slid on the office table towards Zane with just enough force as to halt a foot away from Zane’s chair, “Are those documents from Command? Wada we got?”

Zane sighed at the irony, “Well, Yakamatsu, never you mind about the language issue, because we’re headed for Tokyo.”

Yakamatsu grinned, “Well I’ll be damned if I didn’t just win AGAIN,” he snatched Zane’s mug of coffee and took a victory sip.
Then Yakamatsu got serious, “Any clue why Command is moving so soon?”

Yakamatsu put Zane’s mug down as Zane replied, “Well, eh, no. But one thing’s for sure is that it cannot be good.”

“Any other details? Or are we going to get briefed?”

“Well… hrmm, actually I was waiting for you to come before I read that info,” Zane shuffled through the giant envelope for the mission details. He found a few sheets and a holocommunicator labeled “For Police Eyes Only” in a protective plastic wrap. Zane laid the metal circlet on the table and activated it, hoping it wouldn’t just read what was written on the paper:

To Officer Zane Drape and Yakamatsu Toga:
We regret to inform you of the UPC’s urgent need of your presence in Japan, but our need for your skills is quite dire.
A very interesting scientific anomaly has been plaguing large Japanese metropolises, such as Tokyo, as of recently. Currently the phenomenon is being kept to minimum to the Japanese, it being only scandalous along with fabulous stories. But the Japanese representatives in the UPC have used their military to uncover some startling finds. It would seem this “phenomena” is radiating an energy that can be picked up by scanners, though it is classified by the computer as “unknown”. Not only that but the Japanese military used the local ghost stories to help in the investigation, only to be led to very strange remains of destroyed machines. Many times they have attempted to search out the anomalies using the energy scanners, only to find their previous location. They are not on the move, mind you, they appear and reappear.
Such is why the UPC searched the military and police bureau for the right men for the task of finding and investigating this disturbance. You two have tracking records that outmatch most in the solar system. So once again, I regret to inform you that your orders are to move out and take rest in the Japanese military base in Tokyo to uncover this mystery.
May God speed you.

Zane was impressed, though skeptical. It wasn’t everyday that the UPC thought that something so obviously a hoax was a problem. On the other hand, if such a mission proved truly important.

Zane looked up to see Yakamatsu to see his reaction. He looked unimpressed, “Hmm… at least I’ll get to see my sweetheart while we’re there, now won’t I?”
Ah ha! I have once again risked my sleep to make sure you all have something to read! (also my paranoia says that you all want more from me :P)

This is the first, VERY sort Chapter of my Original Story

enjoy. and I'm quite sorry for... uh... whatever my parinoia thinks I'm doing wrong.

Animorphs is amazing! I own almost all the books and two of the movies.

I.. am guilty. I read the last book, and it depressed me so much that I didn't bother getting the books I don't have. I hate the author for making it end that way. *tear*

Great work! Where is the next chapter? You can't KEEP us waiting forever, you know.
